Anorexia
About anorexia nervosa
Anorexia is a terrible eating disorder that has been affecting youth for decades. While the underlying reasons for the disorder may change from person to person, the same basic feelings of depression and self-hatred are the causes for those suffering from anorexia. In order to make a change in your life, it is important to arm yourself with knowledge.
Getting the Facts
Many people are not even sure if someone they love has anorexia nervosa, because they do not really know what to look for. The best way to tell is to find out about their eating patterns and state of mind. If they are eating just enough to get by on a daily basis, they may have the disorder. The best way to get answers is to get them to see a trained psychologist. They can find out what the patient is thinking and why they are behaving this way. Most people who are pro anorexia have a very low self-opinion and would love to disappear from the world. Others believe their eating is the one thing they can control in their lives and they can't stop. One way or another, only a trained psychologist will be able to understand and treat the patient's mental health.
Making a Change
Whether afflicted with anorexia or bulimia, help is necessary right away. Anorexia treatment is not as simple as getting people to start eating. In order to get someone to move away from slowly killing themselves through starvation, they need to be treated mentally. By making the appropriate mental changes, the patient will feel better about themselves and can move into a more normal lifestyle.
This is a gradual process. Keep in mind that anorexia statistics are not favorable for those looking to make a change. Too many people cannot come back from the eating disorders they have because they cannot change their state of mind. But don't be discouraged; just because the stats aren't in your favor doesn't mean you're destined to become one of them.
