ADHD
ADHD symptoms and treatment
ADD (attention deficit disorder) was the common diagnosis for an individual, generally a young child, who had difficulty paying attention or staying focused. But the acronym of ADD was expanded to ADHD in 1994, to include hyperactivity in the definition, which better reflected all aspects of the condition.
What is ADHD?
When talking about attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, it is important to understand what it is by examining a number of identifying and associated ADHD symptoms. Those symptoms include the inability for the individual to stay focused or pay attention to a certain task or activity, difficulty in completing tasks and forgetfulness. They are also easily distracted, have organizational problems, tend to constantly interrupt when other people are talking or engaged in activities, and they can display constant fidgeting.
Advanced research is being conducted on this disorder. Parents of the ADHD sufferer (or the individual themselves) can reach out to their medical community to receive ADHD help. In order to determine whether a family member may be suffering from this disorder, there are ADHD self-tests available. The self-tests can be taken by using the Internet or by contacting one's medical provider.
ADD and ADHD Treatments
When talking about ADHD treatments, the family should consider a number of options available as part of a treatment program. One of those options is through the use of ADHD medication as prescribed by the family's doctor.
One specific medication used in the treatment of this condition is Ritalin ADHD medication. Ritalin is a stimulant that acts upon the central nervous system with the effects being the suppression of the appetite as well as increased alertness and focus.
Another specific treatment method includes the use of behavior therapy. This behavior therapy is defined as interaction with the child on an individual basis and it involves a trained therapist as well as interaction with the family and collaboration with the educational school system.
