There are several disorders that can affect an individual and cause that person to be incapacitated in some way. Some of those disorders are physical in nature and some are due to mental health issues. Mental health disorders include panic attacks or depression, but another debilitating mental condition is anxiety. It is important to know what anxiety is and what methods be undertaken to overcome it.

What Is Anxiety?

Anxiety can be best defined as a feeling of apprehension or fear. It's as if you know that something is about to happen, but you don't know exactly what it is. Anxiety can be a powerful emotion and if left unchecked, it can paralyze the sufferer and considerably reduce the quality of their life. Some of the warning signs of ongoing anxiety are feelings nausea, diarrhea, muscle tension, upset stomach, profuse sweating and aches and pains in the back.

Anxiety Disorders and Treatment

There are basically five types of anxiety disorders: panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. Anxiety can cause undue stress on the body and create other medical conditions, so it is critical to understand how to overcome it.

It is important to learn as much about anxiety as possible. This can be accomplished by attending classes that deal with anxiety, which can teach you to manage those anxious feelings. To overcome the process of anxiety, first of all you have to recognize the disorder and determine whether it happens infrequently or if the individual is prone to consistent anxiety attacks. Once this has been established, the next step is to learn to control these emotions.

Another treatment option to consider is the use of anxiety medication, which can include prescription medications such as antidepressants, anti-anxiety drugs and beta-blockers.
