Hair loss treatments

Few things so inspire dread in the heart of people quite like the prospect of losing their hair. Hair has long been associated with, and symbolic of, personal power and so the idea of losing it as we age can cause considerable consternation. Even beyond the symbolism of hair, it is an important component of our overall look, and most people want to project an image of vitality, which a good head of hair will do. So, it is no surprise that there have been many advancements in the treatment of hair loss. And, the route of hair loss remedy is longer just for men.

Though long thought to be a concern only of men, in fact, hair loss does occur in women, and there are treatments available specifically for female hair loss. It is important to know that hair loss occurs differently in men and women and that the treatments vary accordingly. Therefore, products made for men will likely not be effective for women.

What Is the Best Hair Loss Product?

The answer to this question depends upon who you are – your age, your gender and the cause of the hair loss. Rogaine was one of the first products available to treat hair loss, and it was initially only available to men and only with a prescription. Today, this product is widely available in drug stores and made in versions for both men and women.

There are other types of products available as well, including supplements and other orally delivered products. Not all of these have had their claims tested, so it is best to thoroughly investigate any product that promises to restore hair. Unfortunately, some manufacturers of hair restoration products are not credible, and prey on the strong desire many feel to get their hair back. So it is worth it to take the time to determine the likelihood of success with the products.

Other Hair Loss Treatments

Other treatment plans do exist to restore lost hair, including hair replacement therapies. These are often done over a course of treatments and can be quite expensive, so take the time to investigate your options if you are considering one of these treatments. Hair loss is often simply a result of unlucky genetics. Keep in mind, however, that hair loss can sometimes be a symptom of an underlying condition such as menopause, poor nutrition or ringworm. Visit your doctor to check for these conditions, as treating the underlying condition will stop the hair loss as well.
