Fitness Program

Stay toned with a physical fitness program

Many people resolve to get in shape at one time or another. Most often, people promise themselves that they will begin a fitness regimen when a new year begins. Sometimes, though, people decide to begin a fitness program at another point in their lives—after the birth of a baby, perhaps, or after a relationship break-up. Whatever the reason, people typically have no problem deciding to get in shape; however, many people have problems actually getting started with a fitness program. Fortunately, getting started isn't complicated; therefore, taking the plunge into a physical fitness program is easier than many people may think.

Starting a Fitness Training Program

There are five steps in beginning a fitness program, but none of them are difficult. First of all, a person needs to assess his fitness level, writing the information in a notebook specifically designated for this purpose. Record the following information:

  • Normal at-rest pulse rate
  • Pulse rate after a one-mile walk
  • Length of time for a one-mile walk
  • Number of push-ups that can be done at one time
  • Body mass index (BMI) and weight
  • Waist circumference at the level of the navel

Step two is to design a custom fitness program that fits with the person's fitness level. A person can choose to do fitness activities that he enjoys, adding those activities into his daily routine. Step three goes along with this, because it simply involves assembling any necessary equipment.

For step four, the person actually gets started with the fitness program, paying attention to what works and what doesn't. Changes can be made as needed. For step five, progress needs to be monitored in the notebook every six weeks—simply reassess the fitness level by testing the same parameters listed above.

Working Toward Weight Loss

For many people, the goal behind a fitness program isn't just to get toned—they want to lose weight as well. These people need a weight loss fitness program. With this type of program, it is necessary to count calories that are burned during exercise so that the person can make sure to consume fewer calories. By burning more calories than what is being consumed, a person will lose weight.
